Why creating a business foundation is king and needed for long-term success

It is never too late but also never too early to start structuring your business in an efficient way.

  • You already have a business with a team of 20+ and you feel the need to organize everything in a much smoother way? YES!

  • You are currently managing your first few employees and need guidance and structure to make sure you are on the right track? YES!

Or … you are just starting your business from scratch? Even better, because the sooner you start the better equipped you will be along the journey!

It’s a given that if you want to be a successful business owner, you will need systems, structures and tools in place to help you run your company in a structured way. Otherwise there will be a point where working in an unorganized environment will be so overwhelming, you will feel like you are losing (or already lost) control.

Why is it necessary to create a foundation in the first place?

Let’s throw some facts at you! Maybe this will make you understand why not having any kind of structure in place will cost you not only time but also money...

  • 86% of employees say that one big reason for failures in the workplace is ineffective communication  (Source: Salesforce)

  • 58% say that poor management is hindering productivity (Source: Society for Human Resource Management)

  • And now get this: A business with an average of 100 employee spends an average downtime of 17 hours in one week clarifying communication issues (this translates to an annual cost of of $528,443!!) (Source: Siemens)

Now that we understood that this is absolutely necessary… you still don’t know how to get there, do you?

What does it look like to create a solid business foundation?

On the higher level, focusing on these three areas:

  • Managing your team effectively - smooth team communication is priceless

  • Knowing your numbers, understanding your KPIs at every given time to make the best decisions

  • Documenting and systematizing all your workflows to keep your standards high and make sure that nothing falls through the cracks

And even though it seems like this is so obvious... So many entrepreneurs I meet on an almost daily basis shrug when I say that, because they realize: ‘Ooops, this is not what I am doing but deep down I know I should.’

And why haven’t they taken the time to implement these things? Because these tasks are not seen as urgent enough in the given moment and are put on the ‘work on later’ list. And we all know that what lands on this list will be dealt with “when we have time”, which is when? Never. Right.

If you come at me with the “I don’t have time for that right now”- excuse … let me be the one to give you the newsflash here & let me tell you what you REALLY don’t have time for.

  • Spending half of your day fixing problems caused by an undertrained, unorganized team

  • Fearing to leave clients unsatisfied (or even lose them) because you are so overwhelmed you lost the overview of what’s going on

And you know what you especially don’t have time for?

  • Trudging through each day knowing that this whole cycle of problem, reaction, exhaustion, catch-Up, frustration and daily nitty gritty is going to lead to worse than burn-out: It’s Going To Eventually Cost You Your Company.

So, when you say you can’t afford to give the time to building a solid, seamless and scalable foundation that will quickly enable massive growth …

The real question is: Can you afford to keep going as you currently are?

No you can’t! That’s why over the next few weeks I will talk a lot about those foundational topics, to help you transform your company into a well oiled, seamlessly running money making machine.

How do I know it’s the right time to hire?

  • How do I empower my team members to perform at peak performance?

  • How do we structure our daily work so that nothing falls through the cracks and we work as efficient as possible?

  • How can we make sure we are on track with our goals?

  • How do I monitor our success?

  • How can I as the business owner make sure that I am not stuck in nitty gritty but actually work on the future vision?

All of this leading to the big question of: How can I run a successful business in which everyone knows their part, knows their goals, is excited to do the work and me as the CEO I get to do more than put fires out left and right but I get to create and execute on the future vision?
