FINALLY Living Life on Your Own Terms

‘I am so glad I am living my life on my own terms - FINALLY’.

I spent too much time wanting to please other people like my mom, not wanting to look like the weirdo in front of my coworkers or even people from highschool that I have not talked to in almost 10 years!

I mean, that’s crazy right? But as someone working with aspiring entrepreneurs lots of my clients have these thoughts and fears when they are starting on their business journey…

“What will XYZ think when I start this business and leave my job?”

Why not play this game for a moment ….

What is the worst thing they could think or say?

“OH MY GOD, is she crazy, she is leaving a job behind that pays a steady salary!!” >> Yes, that’s the price for trying something new and wanting to step into the best life you can imagine.

“LOOK AT HER she wants to be a XYZ now.” >> Yes, totally! Isn’t it great that I already found my calling and you are still stuck in your cubicle?

These are two examples of terrible things people might say… so what? Delete them from your Facebook? Tell them their negativity is not wanted because you realized you are made for more? And then? Well you might have lost 2 “friends” but you might have gained your power back and overcome your fear - that is worth it, isn’t it?

You know what will most likely happen? You stepping up your game and not giving a sh*t about what others think? This is your first step in becoming the business owner you want to be! (+ most likely friends or even strangers will send you wonderful messages of how proud they are that you are doing this and how much they wished they could do it but for 958535 reasons cannot.)

Don’t hold yourself back. Especially not because of a fear like this.

Just show up. Someone out there needs to hear your ‘story’ and within a minute you could be someone’s inspiration.

Take me as an example, even though my life might have looked picture perfect: the awesome university career abroad, the internship in NYC, master’s degree from a great university and then getting the corporate job I wanted. It might have looked like it was all I ever wanted… but when I achieved all of it and I was working the corporate job, it wasn’t what I expected. I didn’t dislike it, but I didn’t LOVE it either.

This was a great realization for me. And a problem. Why? Because I am too damn young to spend 10 hours a day doing something that I didn’t LOVE.

What about all the dreams I had? The dreams I never even thought about anymore as work kept me so busy.

Talking about my plans people would say things like “Well you got lucky, that you have these opportunities.” But you want to hear the truth? I am not lucky. Not lucky at all. My dad had to die for me to realize that the life I built for myself, the life I worked so hard for, is not the life I want to live.

I realized that I deserve to enjoy my life to its fullest. It wasn’t easy to make the decision of quitting and starting something new. Most people thought I was crazy to leave a successful career behind. My drive for building a more fulfilled life was bigger than my fear. I didn’t listen to the ‘no’ sayers, to the ones that told me I would ruin my life quitting my corporate consulting job, to the ones trying to put their own fears on me.

Fast forward a couple of months, choosing to run towards my fears and chase my dreams, I am now running my own successful business. Now, every single day I can choose to do whatever it is that I want to do. I am 100% free, my own boss & loving it.

Being free to me not only means location independence, but that I can structure every day exactly the way I want to, which I couldn’t in my corporate job. When I was still in my 9 to 5 (which never was a 9 to 5 to begin with) I often asked myself: Why can I not come later to the office to go out for breakfast? Or have a 3 hour lunch break if that's what I wanted?

Now I start every day the way I want. And this is exactly the freedom I was craving. So so badly!

How did I make it happen?

Instead of listening to people who don’t get me, who don’t see the world the way I want... I followed people who were already living the life I was longing for - they were living proof that this IS indeed possible!

See it this way: would you take advice on how to make money from a broke person? Obviously not! As soon as I found myself some role models, some humans I could follow and see that ‘yes maybe I’m not as crazy as everyone said I was’… that’s where the magic begun.

Everything else is history.

And there is obviously no looking back.

What does freedom mean to you?
